SUCKER CRUSH

<< OTHER SONGWRITING PROJECTS | COMPOSITION | VARIOUS RELEASE FEATURES >>

Sucker Crush is a project about heartbreak, self reclamation, anti-capitalist yearning, and sometimes small sweet things like plants and pets and video games. I’ve toured nationally, have released two EPs and some singles, and perform frequently in the CA Bay Area and beyond. My newest EP, Echoqualia, released on April 18, 2025.

Check out the SHOWS page for where I’ll be next, or find me on Instagram for more comprehensive updates. You can also follow me on Spotify and add my songs to your best bummer playlists, or buy albums on Bandcamp.

TUCKAMORE

A duo with Adam Hirsch, a composer and recording engineer based in LA. Releases:

TRILLIUM

Trillium is a perennial trio of childhood friends who have been singing together for many years, but no longer live in the same place. We gather whenever possible to make as much music as we can fit into our brief and beautiful times together. This album was rehearsed and recorded over the course of a week in Portland, OR in September of 2022.

Where Have You Gone (2022)

THE VALE

The Vale is an avant-pop duo active from 2013-2016, comprised of multi-instrumentalists Marissa Deitz and Chace Wall. Their confessional songwriting, intricate arrangements, and washed out, lo-fi recordings have garnered comparisons to Tyrannosaurus Rex, Grizzly Bear, Nick Drake, Syd Barrett, and White Fence.

COMPOSITION

I mostly write semi-improvisational electroacoustic works and experimental music for chamber ensembles.

Video Game Score, “Before the Green Moon” (2022, OST release 2024)

The soundtrack was written collaboratively between Marissa Deitz, Scott Archer, and Carter Lodwick for the video game Before The Green Moon in the fall of 2022.

Before The Green Moon” is an independent video game about a farming community at the base of a large space elevator that connects a withered earth to the futuristic and thriving colony on the Moon. It is available to play on Mac, PC, Steam Deck, and Nintendo Switch.

WELL’S GONE DRY (2023) – WRITTEN FOR FREE KEY CHOIR

The original version of Well’s Gone Dry consisted of just two voices, delay pedal, and strummed cello chords, and was written entirely within a few hours to meet an encroaching Music Every Week deadline. The chorus phrase materialized as I heard my own helplessness yowled out by my cat at the back door (“I’m outside, let me in for the night”), and from the empty pail I has been metaphorically hoisting from the creative well (“’cause I’m tired, and the well’s gone dry”). More generally, this is a song about burnout, and the cyclical & unrelenting persistence of daily obligations piling up. Those cycles are illustrated musically by the echoes between the sopranos and altos; later, the canon cascades throughout the full ensemble. The piano keeps time with a bed of low, repeated eighth notes, imitating the original cello accompaniment. Thank you Derek Sup for your trust, and for everyone willing to lend their voices, time, and thoughtful presence to this incredible Free Key project!

Present Tense, performed at Mills College in 2016
