Fowl Figures is a multimedia project developed by Anthony A. Russell while in residence at the Winslow House Project artist residency in Vallejo California.
clucking in tongues that make little sense among us hens
fowl figures beckon a slumbering chicken
whose most feral dreams have hitherto never
grazed stranger pastures than the dirt under its
clawed and fleshen feet
to venture beyond the barrier of all gallinaceous perception
a boundary that
from corporeal limits would appear as impermeable
as solid curtains of woven steel
is revealed to be as fluid as the natal ooze
that dripped from its gaping maw as it pressed its
awe-stricken face into confounded consciousness
flightless and bewildered
the bucolic hen is summoned to peck and claw
with jittering beak and quivering talon
through a towering and unnatural world
devised with baffling intention
drifting ever deeper into the beyond
tethered to earthly sanity only
by the gossamer threads of a dream
woven in noctambulant horror
